Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Bhopal cyber crime police have made first arrest of accused involved in cheating case of digital arrest from Uttar Pradesh, police said on Thursday. A telecom engineer Pramod Kumar was held under digital arrest on November 12. He was told that his Aadhaar card and SIM were used to commit crime. The family got frightened but in the meantime someone informed crime branch and cyber police about the incident.

The victim was forced to pay Rs 3.50 lakh but due to timely intervention of police, the family was saved. Additional police commissioner Shailendra Singh Chouhan said team was sent to Uttar Pradesh and tracked the accused. The police arrested accused Vikas Sahu, resident of Mahoba district in UP.

When he was interrogated, he told police that he had taken SIM card from POS shop owner Dhirendra Kumar Vishwakarma. Sahu added that he was told twice to give his biometric because the SIM could not be generated. Later, he was given SIM. Chouhan added that accused Dhirendra was involved in cheating people as he used to take the biometric impression several times whoever came to buy SIM.

Dhirendra sold the SIM to Durgesh Singh, resident of Kanpur, through which he executed the digital arrest crime. Chouhan informed that Vikas Sahu had turned approver and the police arrested the accused Dhirendra Kumar. The police have launched the manhunt to arrest the main accused Duregesh Singh.
