Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): E-rickshaw drivers in the city will soon wear khaki uniforms and sport name badges, according to the new plan for the movement of these vehicles in six different zones of Bhopal.
Traffic officials said the step is aimed at keeping a check on incidents of thefts, snatchings, and harassment of women, as each e-rickshaw driver will be identified through his uniform and badge.
To streamline the movement of e-rickshaws on city routes, traffic police have formed six zones — Bhopal Railway Station, Rani Kamlapati Railway Station, ISBT, Halalpura Bus Stand, Nadra Bus Stand, and Chowk Bazar area.
Moreover, the movement of e-rickshaws has been restricted on VIP Road, Polytechnic crossing to Ret Ghat, Main road from Lalghati to Gandhinagar, Link Road-1 from Apex trisection to Vyapam Crossing, and Link Road-2 from Arjun Nagar Crossing to Subhash School trisection.
Different colour codes will be given to e-rickshaws plying in separate zones.ACP Traffic Ajay Vajpayee said a uniform and name badge is a must for drivers of all commercialvehicles, and now e-rickshaw drivers have been included.
Uniforms and name badges will give a smarter look to the drivers. It would also make their identification easier in case of any untoward incident, as there have been complaints of thefts, snatchings, and even harassment of women by e-rickshaw drivers in the past.
With passengers knowing the drivers by name, it will leave a psychological impact on drivers with ill intent, he added.
