Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A priest has been booked under the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act with an FIR registered against him for allegedly promoting conversions in Amrai under the Bagsewania police station limits on Sunday. Bajrang Dal filed a complaint with Bagsewaniya police station alleging that priest Shiv Kumar Jharbad lured families for alleged conversion to Christianity.

Bajrang Dal created ruckus during a prayer meet at the house of the priest Shiv Kumar at Amrai area alleging that he was luring people to convert to Christianity.  They alleged that the priest offering various incentives was encouraging dozens of families to embrace Christianity.

Bagsewania TI Amit Soni said, “FIR has been registered under Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act on the basis of  Bajarang Dal’s complaint against priest Shiv Kumar of Amrai area. Priest allegedly used to call families and lured them into converting to Christianity.” Literature regarding Christianity has also been recovered from his place.

According to Bajrang Dal, the priest and others first offered help to venerable families providing medical aid and then provided better education and jobs to their family members. Thereafter they would start mounting pressure on families to embrace Christianity, the members of the rightwing group alleged.

However, the women who had come to the police station rubbished the claims stating that Bajrang Dal never came to help when they and their families needed them the most. They further claimed that their children were totally ruined and police had picked them for various crimes but Bajrang Dal never came to their support. And now they have embraced Christianity and Lord Jesus Christ, and would follow the religion, the women told the cops.

‘Rs 20,000 offered to families’

Meanwhile, a video surfaced showing the women claiming they were offered Rs 20,000 and free education for their children in missionary schools.
