Bhopal: AIIMS Gets Grant To Tackle Health Issues In Tribal Schools

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): AIIMS Bhopal has received financial approval under the "Science and Technology Popularisation" scheme by the Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST), Bhopal.

This grant will support a training programme aimed at educating teachers from tribal schools about critical health issues affecting children in these areas.

The program will focus on early identification of nutritional deficiencies, timely detection of gynaecological issues, and providing life-saving primary medical care. The initiative will run for one year across the state’s Eklavya, Gyanodaya, Kanya Shiksha Campus, and Excellence Schools.

Dr. Vikram Watti, Assistant Professor at the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, will serve as the principal investigator for the programme. Dr. Bhoopeshwari Patel, Additional Professor at the Department of Trauma and Emergency, and Dr. Ketan Mehra, Associate Professor at the Department of Urology, will act as co-investigators.

The training sessions will include expert lectures, awareness sessions, quizzes, poster competitions, and other participatory activities. These efforts aim to empower teachers with the knowledge and skills to assist children in medical emergencies effectively.

Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, said, "This initiative reflects AIIMS Bhopal's deep commitment to community health and welfare.

By providing emergency medical management training to teachers in tribal areas, we are not only empowering them with life-saving skills but also strengthening the country’s primary healthcare system. This programme will have a positive impact on the lives of hundreds of children."

Grant for growth

AIIMS Bhopal receives funding under the "Science and Technology Popularisation" scheme by MPCST.

Teachers will be trained on early detection of nutritional deficiencies, gynaecological issues, and emergency medical management.

The training will be conducted over a year in tribal schools across state.

Co-investigators are Dr. Bhoopeshwari Patel (Additional Professor, Trauma and Emergency) and Dr. Ketan Mehra (Associate Professor, Urology).
