Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 60-year-old man has filed for divorce at the family court here on the ground that his wife and their children drove him out of his house, assaulted him and spied on him.

The couple has been man and wife for 30 years. The man has been living separately from wife and their children for 10 years. He lives with his old mother whereas his wife lives with her three daughters, one of whom is married. Her son-in-law also lives with them.

Both the houses are owned by the man. The couple got married in 1995. The man worked in a government factory whereas his wife used to make papads.

However, they fought with each other frequently. One day, the woman and her children threw him out of his house, saying that he beat and abused them after having liquor.

As the man has two houses, he started living in another house with his old mother. Despite this, his wife and children keep a close eye on him. The woman sent her son-in-law to spy on her hubby, wearing burkas and sandals. Unfortunately, he was caught by neighbours. They gave him a beating before handing over to the police.

According to family court counsellor Shail Awasthi who is handling the case, after the spying incident, the man filed for divorce. “Earlier, he was not thinking of getting a divorce. He was living happily with his old mother,” Shail said. The woman has also sought maintenance from her husband, she added.
