Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a breakthrough, joint teams of police and Crime Branch nabbed notorious criminal Naseem Banne Khan, involved in the sensational murder of a youth at a birthday party in Chhola Mandir area on Sunday night. Khan, who was carrying a reward of ₹30,000 on his arrest, was nabbed from Betul district on Thursday, police officials said.
Naseem received injuries in his legs while attempting to escape the police and was treated in hospital before he was brought to Bhopal.
Police will now take his custody remand for further questioning in the murder case and recovery of the firearm used in the crime.
Police have arrested five people, including Naseem’s mother and girlfriend, involved in the case earlier. Two of Naseem’s aides were still at large, officials said.
Police commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra said five police teams were carrying out raids to trace Naseem Banne and he was arrested following a tip-off.
Naseem’s interrogation revealed that he wanted to kill his rival Raja Khatik but the bullets hit his aide Amit Verma. Naseem confessed that he wanted to establish his supremacy and fired multiple shots on the spot to spread his terror among the locals. After committing the murder, Naseem was hiding in Bhopal and then fled towards Nagpur. He then reached Betul to avoid arrest.
Police sources said that Naseem had rivalry with Raja Khatik over division of ‘hawala’ cash looted from a trader some months back. Raja Khatik was involved in looting ‘hawala’ cash in Satna and other places. Sources claimed that Raja got inputs about ‘hawala’ transactions through his network and then planned loots with his aides. Naseem used to take his share in the loot.
