Sewer Water Enters Homes, Jabalpur Residents Protest, Blame Civic Body |

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, along with local residents, staged a protest outside the Municipal Corporation office in Jabalpur on Tuesday.

The protest came after continuous rain caused sewer water to overflow onto the streets in several areas of the city.

Protesters sat on a dharna, raised slogans, and blamed the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Mayor for the poor drainage system and lack of timely action.

Residents said they have been forced to walk through dirty water and live in unhygienic conditions due to the flooding. They accused the officials of negligence and warned that if the problem is not solved within 15 days, they will intensify their protest.

The Aam Aadmi Party said the condition of Jabalpur’s drainage system is getting worse every year during the rainy season, and the administration continues to ignore the people’s suffering.

Dirty water filled in the wards, sewer entered the houses

Aam Aadmi Party District President Amitabh Pandey said that due to rain, the sewer has overflowed in many wards of the city. Dirty water is entering the houses, due to which people are neither able to cook food nor send children to school.

Sapna Jat, a resident of Apna Nagar Colony of Bahodapur, who participated in the protest, said that dirty sewer water is continuously filling in her house. Children have stopped going to school, disease has spread in the house. Sapna said that she complained to the local councilor and the Municipal Corporation several times, but no hearing took place.

She said, "The councilor puts off the matter every time by making an excuse of being ill. I had also reached the corporation in the last public hearing, but no action has been taken till date." She also told that some bullies in her neighborhood have placed a pot to block the way in front of their house, a complaint was also made about this, but no action was taken on that either.

15-day ultimatum to the administration

The protesters have given 15 days to the Municipal Corporation, within which if the solution is not found, the movement will be made more fierce. People complain that the officers are neither available in the office nor pick up the phone.
