Panna (Madhya Pradesh): A total of 8 quintals and 29 kilograms of substandard ghee, worth around ₹6 lakh, was destroyed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Panna on Monday.

The action was taken to protect public health after lab tests confirmed that the ghee did not meet safety standards.

According to information, the ghee belonged to a local trader named Vikramajit Singh Gupta.

According to FDA officials, a complaint was received on June 28, 2024, regarding the quality of ghee being sold.

Acting on this, the department collected samples and sent them for testing. The results showed that the ghee was of poor quality and unfit for consumption.

Following the report, the case was taken to the Additional Collector’s court. The court imposed a fine of ₹1.5 lakh on the trader.

After the penalty was issued, the FDA moved ahead with the destruction of the entire stock of the failed ghee.

Officials said the step was taken to ensure consumer safety and to send a strong message against food adulteration. The department also stated that strict actions will continue against sellers who violate food safety norms.
