Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An 18-year-old NEET aspirant shot himself to death after reportedly seeing low marks in his NEET answer sheet on Tuesday in Gwalior,

On hearing the sound of the gunshot, his family rushed to the room and took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The incident took place in Shatabdipuram area of Gwalior at around 8 pm on Tuesday night. Maharajpura police has seized the pistol and started investigation.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Nikhil Pratap Rathore. His father Brijbhan Singh Rathore is retired from the army. Lives in Shatabdipuram with family.

According to information, when the NEET answer sheet was released on Tuesday, the parents asked him for the marks.

He got mentally stressed after seeing less marks than expected in the answer sheet. He went to the downstairs room of the house and shot himself with his father's licensed pistol.

Father used to drop him to coaching himself

The family said - Nikhil was very serious about studies. Father himself used to drop him to coaching. Nikhil's elder brother is a B.Tech student.

CSP Nagendra Singh Sikarwar said- The student was under stress due to the result. Still, investigation is being done from every angle.
