Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A flood-like situation persisted in many parts of the state on Sunday, especially Bundelkhand, which bore the brunt of heavy rains. Downpour has wreaked havoc in five districts, including Rewa, Satna, and Chhatarpur. Khajuraho received 6.3 inches of rain, and Nowgong in Chhatarpur got 3.4 inches. In Chitrakoot, people had to be rescued by boats.
Seven gates of the Bansagar Dam and five gates of the Bargi Dam were opened. Similarly, in Tikamgarh, 12 gates of the Bansujara Dam were opened following continuous rains. After this, a strong flow of water was seen in the Dhasan river, due to which flood-like conditions are expected in the surrounding areas. Water is being released at a speed of 1,320 cubic metres per second, due to which the water level of the river is rising rapidly.
The Padariya Dam breached, flooding many villages in Chhatarpur on Sunday. Fifty families were shifted to a safer place, according to district administration officials. SDM Akhil Rathore said to the Free Press, “The Padariya dam broke down, flooding the low-lying villages. An SDRF team was pressed into service.”
In Raisen, the culvert built on the Begum river was submerged after a heavy rainfall, forcing the locals to cross the river, risking their lives. This area of the Silwani tehsil has no bridge.
In Vidisha, the water level in the Betwa River and its tributaries has increased. Due to strong currents and high waves, the river is in spate, resulting in waterlogging in the surrounding areas.
