Kia has announced a voluntary recall for 1,380 units of the EV6 in India, affecting models manufactured between March 3, 2022, and April 14, 2023. The recall is aimed at updating the software in the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) to enhance the performance of the 12V auxiliary battery. The company has assured that affected owners will be contacted and guided through the update process.
Notably, a similar recall was issued in July 2024 for 1,138 units of the EV6 over concerns that the ICCU could prevent the 12V battery from charging. This was part of a broader global recall that affected over 48,000 units in the US. Kia had previously stated that the issue would be resolved through a software update, and the latest recall follows the same approach to ensure smooth operation of the EV6.
Kia introduced the EV6 in India in June 2022, marking its entry into the country’s electric vehicle market. By November 2023, the company had sold 1,000 units of the premium electric SUV. At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Kia showcased the updated EV6 for the first time in India and officially opened bookings for the facelifted model. The biggest change in the new version is a larger battery pack, which is expected to offer improved range and efficiency.
The updated Kia EV6 features a new 84 kWh battery pack, replacing the earlier 77.4 kWh unit. With this upgrade, Kia claims the electric SUV can now deliver a range of up to 650 kilometers on a full charge. The EV6 continues to support ultra-fast charging, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in just 18 minutes with a 350 kW DC charger. While the battery capacity has increased, the powertrain options remain the same as the previous model.
