On Indian Army Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated three advanced naval combatants—INS Surat, INS Nigiri, and INS Vagsheer—to the nation at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.

INS Surat is an indigenously constructed frontline warship and guided missile destroyer. INS Nilgiri is the first ship of the Project-17 Alpha frigates (P-17A), designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau. Meanwhile, INS Vaghsheer is the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, built in partnership with France's Naval Group.

PM Modi will also inaugurate the Sri Sri Radha Madanmohanji Temple, an ISKCON project in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi highlighted the importance of these ships in India's maritime borders.

Prime Minister Modi said, "We are taking a significant step towards empowering the Indian Navy of the 21st century. It's for the first time that a destroyer, a frigate, and a submarine, all three are being commissioned together."

He further said, "India has always supported an open, secure, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. Therefore, when it came to the development of the coastal countries, India gave the mantra of Sagar. SAGAR means security and growth for all in the region"
The induction of these brilliant naval vessels showcases India's commitment to becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security.
