Independence Day 2023: From 'Azadi' To 'Swatantrata'; Know What 'Independence' Is Referred In Indian And Global Languages

India is all set to celebrate its 77th Independence Day on August 15. But, do you know what 'Independence' is referred to in different Indian and International languages?

According to the Constitution of India there are 22 scheduled languages in India. They are Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odhia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu

Independence is referred differently in different languages. In the North where the predominant language is Hindi Independence is referred as 'स्वतंत्रता' (Swatantrata) and ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ (Azadi) in Punjabi

In the West, Independence is referred as स्वतंत्रता (Swatantrata) in Marathi and સ્વતંત્રતા (Swatantrata) in Gujarati

In the East, Independence is referred as স্বাধীনতা (Swadhinata) in Bengali and ସ୍ୱାଧୀନତା (Swadhinata) in Odia

In the South, is Independence referred as, சுதந்திரம் (Suthandhiram) in Tamil, స్వాతంత్ర్యం (Swaatantryam) in Telugu, ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ (Swaatantrya) in Kannada and സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം (Swaathanthryam) in Malayalam

In various global languages, Independence can be referred to in different ways: Independencia in Spanish, Indépendance in French, Unabhängigkeit in German, 独立 (Dúlì) in Chinese, Независимость (Nezavisimost') in Russian, استقلال (Istiqlal) in Arabic and 独立(Dokuritsu) in Japanese
