Ashburn: A 20-year-old Indian-origin university student from the United States went missing in the popular tourist town of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. According to Civil Defense officials, Sudiksha Konanki was last seen before dawn on March 6 at a beach near the resort where she was staying with several friends.

A search operation has been launched to trace the missing student. She disappeared from Riu República Hotel in Punta Cana. Konanki was reportedly last seen with a man right.

The Indian-origin student was last seen on CCTV with seven other people entering the beach on Thursday, March 6 after 4:15 am, reported CNN. As per the police, she arrived in the Dominican Republic with five other people. CCTV cameras reportedly captured five women and one man leaving the beach at 5:55 am, while the 20-year-old student and one other man were still at the resort. Meanwhile, the remaining one person left the beach area at 9:55 am (local time), reported the media house citing sources.

Who Is Sudiksha Konanki?

Konanki, originally from India, is a student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a resident of Ashburn, Virginia. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin said that his administration is working closely with federal and local partners as the search continues for Konanki. He also shared a flyer with Konanki's details.

Konanki’s father, Subbarayudu Konanki, told CNN that she had gone to Punta Cana for spring break. As per her father, she wants to be a doctor.

“My daughter is a very nice girl. She’s ambitious. She wanted to pursue a career in medicine," Subbarayudu Konanki told the media house.

The Embassy of India also extended all assistance in coordination with government authorities of the Dominican Republic.
