Los Angeles: A private jet carrying Gonzaga University's men's basketball team narrowly avoided a collision at Los Angeles International Airport, thanks to the quick intervention of an air traffic controller. The incident occurred as the team’s jet came dangerously close to crossing a runway where another aircraft was taking off. The controller urgently commanded, “Stop, stop, stop,” averting a potential disaster.
Video Shows Terrifying Scenes Of Narrow Escape
The event was captured on a video, with audio revealing the controller’s swift warning. The plane, which had flown from Spokane, Washington, to Los Angeles, resumed movement after a brief pause.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident, which occurred on Friday. According to reports quoting the FAA, Key Lime Air Flight 563 had been instructed to hold short of a runway due to another aircraft taking off. However, the Embraer E135 jet began to cross the hold bars, prompting the controller to order an immediate stop. Fortunately, the jet halted before crossing the runway edge.
University Issues Statement Confirming Students' Safety
Gonzaga University confirmed the incident, stating, "Our team members aboard the aircraft were unaware of the situation as it occurred, and we are grateful it ended safely for everyone involved." The Delta flight, which was taking off at the time, reported no issues.
