President Ebrahim Raisi was returning to Iran after visiting Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed in bad weather conditions on Sunday afternoon. On board were Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, Hojjatoleslam Al Hashem (the head of the Friday prayer in Tabriz), Malek Rahmati (the governor of the province of East Azarbaijan), and several others.

However, the death of the Iranian leader has not been confirmed by the government. An Iranian news agency reported that the Iranian president, foreign minister, and other occupants of the helicopter have perished in the chopper crash.

PM Modi condoles Iranian president Raisi's death in helicopter crash

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed shock over the demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a fatal helicopter crash.

In a post on X, PM Modi acknowledged Raisi's contribution in strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship .

"Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution to strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow," PM Modi tweeted.

There is still no official confirmation that Raisi is dead, but medics have stated that they found "no signs" of life at the crash site. Early this morning, visuals of the crash site emerged online. According to reports, the footage was captured by the Red Crescent.

Rescuers found the wreckage on the route from Khoylar village to Kelem.

As per Tasnim News Agency report, after the probable coordinates of the crash site were announced, rescue teams immediately rushed to the designated location, but there was no sign of the helicopter.
