External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, currently on an official visit to China, held discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, noting that both nations have made "good progress" in normalising bilateral relations over the past nine months.
During the meeting, Jaishankar remarked, "This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. We appreciate the resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra after a five-year hiatus and thank the Chinese side for their cooperation in this matter."
Emphasising mutual trust as the cornerstone of bilateral ties, he added, "The past nine months have seen significant progress in normalising our relations, stemming from resolving border friction and maintaining peace in the region. This stability forms the essential foundation for strategic trust and the steady development of our relationship. Our focus must now shift to addressing remaining border issues, including de-escalation."
Jaishankar stressed the need for long-term vision in bilateral engagement, Since the leaders' meeting in Kazan in October 2024, India-China relations have shown positive momentum. We must sustain this progress. Our recent interactions at international forums have enabled valuable strategic communication, which we hope to continue through regular exchanges in each other's countries."
