US President Donald Trump has been on collision course with world leaders almost after he assumed office on January 20. But it seems he and UK PM Keir Starmer have a newfound respect for each other. The two leaders spoke on phone on Sunday (January 26) and before that, Trump even said he likes Starmer a lot.

When asked by BBC about his relationship with Starmer, Trump said,"I get along with him well. I like him a lot."

"He's liberal, which is a bit different from me, but I think he's a very good person and I think he's done a very good job thus far. He's represented his country in terms of philosophy. I may not agree with his philosophy, but I have a very good relationship with him," he added as quoted by BBC.

The very next day, Starmer appeared to return the favour and praised Trump for his work to secure 'landmark' ceasefire deal and hostage exchange between Israel and Hamas.

In a statement about their phone call Downing Street said that PM Starmer paid tribute to Trump's role in securing hostage deal and ceasefire.

The 45-minute phone call saw both leader discuss variety of issues along with situation in the Middle East.

In its statement, the White House said that Trump “expressed his well wishes for the British Royal Family.”

Trump is a known admirer of the British royal family.

The Labour government under Starmer for months has tried to build a good equation with Trump. Starmer himself has been avoiding direct and scathing remarks on Trump, his statements and policy.
