Saving money is something that's on everyone's mind. And it should be as its directly connected TO our day-to-day survival. It is this impulse of consumers that makes entrepreneurs find novel ways of launching services that are a win-win for both, the seller and the customer.
When avian flu has led to culling thousands of chickens in US, a company is letting people rent a chicken for them to avoid paying rising egg prices.
The method is simple, the company instals a coop and number of chickens in the customer's backyard as per his preference. The customer then tastes eggs of this labour in time to come.
“We bring a chicken coop with two to four egg-laying hens to someone's backyard. Two hens lay about a dozen eggs a week, and four hens lay about two dozen eggs a week,” said Jenn Tompkins, Rent The Chicken co-founder.
“It’s coming into our busy season. This kind of mimics 2023 when there was the avian flu came through.”
Tompkins was quoted by NBC News.
Rent The Chicken was established near Pittsburgh in the year 2013. It now partners with farmers across the United States and Canada.
Jen Tompkins, the co-founder of the company, said that repeating waves of avian flu has led many to take the renting option. And though they rent the chicken partly to escape high egg prices, there is also a 'peace of mind' factor at play.
“It's less about the skyrocketing price of eggs but more about knowing they have eggs when there might not be eggs on the shelves at the grocery store,” she told NBC.
