Xinjiang: At least five people lost their lives after a suspension bridge in China's Xinjiang collapsed. According to reports, 24 people also sustained injuries. The incident took place at 6:18 pm on Wednesday (local time) in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, reported Xinhua.

The area has reportedly been closed for tourists. Several videos of the low-hanging suspension bridge tilted to one side surfaced online.

On of the videos shows at least two people lying on the ground after the bridge collapsed.

Authorities rushed to the spot after receiving information. A rescue operation was launched. The injured were rushed to a hospital.

Notably, the area, called Xiata, is known for its natural landscape. Hundreds of tourists visit this place daily.

A detailed investigation has been launched into the collapse.

A similar incident took place in China in June this year, where a cargo truck was left hanging from a collapsed highway bridge in Guizhou province. The bridge collapsed after a landslide triggered by torrential rains hit the region. Dramatic visuals of the truck dangling from the collapsed bridge also surfaced online.
