A heartwarming act of kindness is melting hearts across the internet. A woman in Minnesota surprised two local construction workers by serving them a homemade South Indian snack – medu vada. The gesture, simple yet thoughtful, quickly went viral and has become a symbol of Indian hospitality abroad.

The now-viral video begins with the woman stepping out of her home, dressed casually in a nighty and dupatta, carrying two plates of food. She walks up to one of the workers and offers him the plate with a smile. It’s not clear exactly how many workers she served, but with two plates in hand, at least two lucky individuals got to taste the traditional treat.

Curious and excited, the workers accept the dish and ask what it is. One even compares it to a doughnut because of its round shape and a hole in the middle. The woman clarifies it’s called medu vada, a savory South Indian snack that's spicy, not sweet, unlike the other dish.

Later in the video, the workers are enjoying the vada with chutney. One of them takes a bite and exclaims, “This is fire!” clearly impressed by the bold flavors. They also appreciate its tempting aroma before giving it a bite.

Notably, the workers were sealcoating the pathway in front of her house.

The video has racked up nearly 400,000 likes on Instagram, with users from around the world applauding the gesture.

“Just a simple act of goodwill, very common in India,” one user commented.

Another wrote, “This is the beautiful culture of India. Atithi Devo Bhava – The guest is God.”
