A young tourist in Uttarakhand was publicly shamed by a local for littering and polluting the environment near the scenic Nainital Lake. A video of the man reprimanding the tourist has gone viral after he posted it on his Instagram.
In the video, a man can be seen confronting another man for allegedly throwing a used plastic packaged drinking water bottle into the Nainital Lake. The man confronting the tourist has been identified as Karan Verma.
The video shows Karan confronting a man standing by Nainital Lake about why he threw a bottle into the water. The man refutes the claim and instead asks Karan if he actually saw him do it. Karan insists that the man had confessed to the act before he began recording a video and claims to have witnessed it firsthand.
Karan also pans the camera towards the lake, where boats are parked, and a plastic bottle along with other garbage can be seen floating.
The tourist tells Karan to stop bothering him. At one point, he briefly admits to having “accidentally” kicked the bottle into the lake but quickly tries to deflect the conversation. Karan continues to confront him.
Karan can be heard saying, "Kooda aap phek rahe ho, educated lag rahe ho par ho nahi," which roughly translates to, "You're throwing garbage; you look educated, but you're not."
The video has received more than 141,529 likes on Instagram. While the exact date of the incident is not known, the video was posted on 8 May.
