New Delhi, July 07: In a shocking incident, a passenger train travelling from Delhi to Shamli came to a sudden halt at Alawalpur Halt in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. The train was unexpectedly halted for around 40 minutes, after which the passengers became curious and came out to find the reason behind the long halt. They were shocked and surprised to find that the guard was in an inebriated condition inside the locomotive driver's cabin. The passengers recorded the incident and made the video viral on social media. A bottle of alcohol was also found inside the cabin.
As per reports, the train was running on schedule untill it reached the Alawalpur Halt. The passengers present inside the train first assumed the the train has been halted to allow other trains to pass, however, as time passed and no train passed from any of the directions, they came down from the train to check.
After waiting for about 40 minutes, they reached the cabin and found the guard lying on the floor unconscious under the influence of alcohol. They immediately recorded the guard and the cabin, where a bottle of alcohol was also present. They tried calling out the guard, however, he was unable to response due to the excess amount of alcohol consumed by him.
There are reports that the Northern Railways swung into action after the video hit the internet and went viral on social media. The guard has been identified and an inquiry has been initiated against him. They have also assured that strict disciplinary action will be taken against the employee.
The guard's irresponsible behaviour not only delayed the train for over 40 minutes, it also jeopardised the safety and security of the passengers. The incident could have turned into a major accident. Luckily, the passengers reacted and a major tragedy was averted.

Northern Railways issued a statement and said, "The passenger train 64021 traveling from Delhi to Shamli had a slow response from the guard between Baraut and Baghpat, so the guard underwent a medical examination. The matter is under investigation. Further action will be taken upon receipt of the medical report."
