Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Most of the roads here have turned dusty, posing problems for commuters after the rain came to a halt.
The roads that were dug up for construction had turned muddy in the rain. The mud dried up after the rain stopped and the roads became dusty.
Now thick clouds of dust rise in the air with the slightest movement of vehicles, causing itching in the eyes. Those prone to allergies suffer more under such conditions.
Commuters are complaining of eye irritation, breathing trouble and visibility issues. The dust, often a result of poor road maintenance and heavy traffic, can exacerbate respiratory problems and increase the risk of accidents due to reduced visibility.
However, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and PWD have sprayed a bitumen layer to settle the dust, especially in the vicinity of the Mantralaya (state secretariat).
Still, dusty roads in MP Nagar, Banganga Square, Polytechnic Square, Kamla Park, Bittan Market, Shahpura and 10-number market are posing a lot of problems to commuters.
Dr Lokendra Dave, HoD pulmonary medicine Gandhi Medical College said, “Mud becomes dust on becoming dry so it causes respiratory infection. People should wear masks and spectacles for protection. Allergic persons suffer more in such a situation.”
