Several Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Users Report Of Folding Flaw: What Should You Do?
Several Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 users report difficulty opening their ultra‑thin foldable due to strong magnets and narrow edges. Reddit posts and media coverage describe units failing to open flat or binding hinges. Users are adapting with grip tape, cases or manual techniques.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is up for open sale in India and early adopters are reporting some issues: the phone is difficult to open, especially with one hand, and some units do not fold in complete symmetry. According to user reports, the thin side edges and powerful magnetic closure make it hard to grip and unfold, especially when using the device one-handed or on the move.
One Reddit user, discussing demo units viewed in-store, noted, “On the demo unit, the outer corners on the opening side didn’t fully close. When folded, the very ends didn’t line up flush. It looked like they were slightly bent or warped.”
Another Reddit thread detailed a physical defect, “I just found out theres a bit of a popping sound near the bottle of the screen if you press on it after opening. After pressing once it doesnt happen again till you fold the device again. Im not sure if thats like the screen slightly lifting or if thats just part of the new hinge?”
Galaxy Z Fold 7 users report that the ultra-slim profile (just 8.9 mm folded) and strong magnets contribute to the challenge of opening the device, especially with one hand. One user notes, "I want to enjoy its thinness after I paid for the Care+, but the magnet is too strong, and the two halves are so thin, which created a very little surface area to grap. I just can't open it while I'm on the go or doing my errands. I need to sit and struggle to open it without fearing its fall. Samsung should have at least made the magnet less strong."
To compensate, users are applying grip tape to the sides for added traction. Others are using minimal grip techniques—placing thumbs sequentially on each half and applying gentle downward pressure—rather than using cases that might conceal the device’s sleek design.
Not all units show this issue. Affected users should try these things:
Try applying a lightweight case or grip tape to improve traction on the sides.
Employ careful unfolding technique: thumbs on each half, hinge supported at back.
If the device won’t open flat or feels obstructed, stop and contact Samsung support—faulty hinges or debris may be addressed under warranty.
For demo or early units with repeated handling, verify hinge alignment before purchasing.
As reports continue, first-time users of Galaxy Z Fold 7 are advised to inspect opening behavior and hinge integrity, especially when buying from display.
