Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas has said that the company’s latest offering—an AI-powered browser called Comet—has the potential to take on routine tasks usually handled by recruiters and executive assistants. The browser, which is currently in a limited rollout, aims to streamline workplace workflows through natural language commands.
In an interview with The Verge, Srinivas explained that Comet can perform tasks such as sourcing job candidates, scheduling meetings, and managing email communication with minimal user input. With these features, Comet could serve as an AI assistant that works quietly in the background, allowing users to focus on more strategic activities.

The browser works by connecting with commonly used tools such as LinkedIn, Gmail, and Google Calendar. This enables it to automate specific functions like writing outreach messages, checking candidate profiles, and setting up interviews. Srinivas believes the tool can help reduce the burden on internal support roles, particularly in small or resource-constrained teams.
The broader vision for Comet includes evolving it into a browser-based operating system that continually learns and adapts to user preferences. According to Srinivas, this shift—from a search-based model to one where tasks are executed directly—is a natural next step in the progression of AI at work.
Despite its premium pricing and invite-only access, the company believes that Comet’s utility will justify its cost. Srinivas stressed that those willing to learn and adapt to AI tools will remain more employable in the changing job landscape. He also encouraged young professionals to focus on acquiring digital skills instead of fearing AI’s impact on employment.
In India, Airtel has partnered with Perplexity to offer its users free access to the Perplexity Pro plan for a year. This offer gives Airtel users access to premium features including faster responses, priority access to new tools, and expanded usage limits on the Perplexity AI platform.
