Microsoft Reveals 40 Jobs That Will Be Destroyed Due To AI: Journalists And Teachers On Top, Maids And Painters To Be Affected The Least

Ever since the introduction of ChatGPT, analysts, experts, and CEOs are warning of job losses across white-collar roles. A new Microsoft-backed study has now listed 40 jobs that are most likely to be disrupted or replaced by artificial intelligence, with professions such as teachers, journalists, and call center agents topping the list. The research, conducted in collaboration with OpenAI and LinkedIn, highlights the widening impact of generative AI across various sectors of the global workforce.

The study comes amid growing concern over the rapid adoption of AI tools like ChatGPT, which are increasingly capable of performing tasks traditionally handled by humans. The tech sector has already seen massive restructuring, with Microsoft alone laying off 15,000 employees this year.

Jobs That Will Be Disrupted By AI

The jobs listed as most susceptible to AI-driven disruption include telemarketers, teachers, customer service representatives, psychologists, judges, sociologists, news analysts, journalists, technical writers, proofreaders, translators, social workers, insurance underwriters, anthropologists, clinical data managers, survey researchers, historians, political scientists, arbitrators, epidemiologists, HR specialists, mediators, career counselors, curators, correspondents, copywriters, editors, market research analysts, legal secretaries, training specialists, and public relations specialists. These roles largely involve processing, analyzing, or generating text, tasks AI systems are now highly proficient at.

Jobs Least Threatened By AI

On the other hand, the study found that certain manual and physically-intensive jobs remain far less threatened by current AI capabilities. Among the least affected occupations are cleaners, dishwashers, laborers, carpenters, painters, roofers, mechanics, welders, butchers, bakers, delivery workers, cooks, janitors, drivers, electricians, plumbers, construction workers, security guards, masons, and tailors. These jobs typically require hands-on work, physical dexterity, or context-specific decision-making that AI and robotics have not yet mastered.

The findings serve as both a warning and a guidepost for future workforce planning, urging industries and governments to prepare for large-scale shifts in employment as AI technologies become deeply embedded in everyday business operations.
