Microsoft Outlook Outage Disrupts Email Access In India; Services Now Restored
Microsoft Outlook faced a global outage on July 10, leaving users unable to access emails via web, mobile, or desktop. Over 2,000 reports poured in globally, with major impact in the US, India, and other regions. Microsoft has now resolved the issue, confirming all services are back online and functioning normally.

Microsoft Outlook users across the globe, including India, faced major disruptions, with thousands reporting issues accessing their mailboxes. The outage, which affected multiple connection methods including Outlook.com, mobile apps, and desktop clients, has now been fully resolved.
According to Microsoft, the outage began on Wednesday, July 9, at 10:20 PM UTC (Thursday, July 10, at 3:50 AM IST), and was resolved by Thursday, July 10, at 5:25 PM UTC (Thursday, July 10, at 10:55 PM IST). The company confirmed in its final updates that, "The configuration change has fully saturated in all affected infrastructure. We've verified that the service is healthy by monitoring telemetry and confirming resolution with previously affected customers."
During the outage, users reported a range of issues including login failures, password prompts, and error messages such as “license not valid” and “cannot connect to server.” Some users were unable to load or sync emails, while others were repeatedly signed out of their accounts.
Downdetector recorded over 2,000 user complaints at the peak of the incident, with over 60 percent of users facing login-related issues. The outage was not limited to India. United States, where cities like New York, Washington, and Dallas saw the highest number of reports—it also impacted users in Canada, Germany, and Australia.
Microsoft initially attempted fix overnight but encountered further technical hurdles. “We identified an issue with the initial fix and we’ve corrected it,” the company posted on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday morning. They assured users that a new fix was being rolled out and closely monitored.
Despite the email disruption, other Microsoft 365 services such as Teams and OneDrive remained operational. Microsoft also advised users not to reset their passwords unnecessarily during the downtime.
As of Friday morning, all services are back online. Microsoft has declared this the final update on the incident and confirmed that Outlook is functioning normally once again.
Microsoft users are encouraged to check the Microsoft 365 Service Health page for real-time updates during any future issues.
