In a move to introduce AI Mode to more users, Google used its homepage to spotlight the company’s latest AI-powered search tool. It promoted AI Mode through a special Google Doodle that directed users to try out the feature. An animated image on the homepage, along with a share button, served as an entry point to AI Mode.

The prominent placement marks a shift in how Google is introducing users to its evolving search experience. Unlike traditional Google Doodles, which usually highlight cultural or historical moments, this one was focused on product visibility.

The landing page describes the feature as a way to “search whatever’s on your mind and get AI-powered responses.” With a more conversational approach and multiple input options, AI Mode is part of Google’s effort to redefine how people find information online.

For those unaware, AI Mode is a chatbot-style search experience that Google began rolling out in March, and came to India last week. It is designed to help users handle more complex queries by offering conversational, AI-generated responses. The feature sits alongside standard search results and is powered by Gemini, Google’s flagship AI model.

Users can interact with AI Mode using text, voice, or images. According to the company, the tool is aimed at simplifying information retrieval, especially for questions that previously may have required several search attempts.

With AI Mode, Google looks to go head to head with other AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity—Google is positioning AI Mode as its response to a changing search landscape. AI Mode is available without requiring users to sign in, allowing broader and quicker access, unlike its counterparts.

AI Mode’s placement on one of the most-visited web pages in the world – Google Homepage - reflects the company’s growing emphasis on integrating generative AI into everyday search.
