As India prepares for the crucial fourth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has provided a significant update on star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. The southpaw, who battled through pain during the third Test, remains a key figure in India's plans for the remainder of the series.
Speaking ahead of the Manchester Test, ten Doeschate acknowledged Pant’s determination while also offering insight into the team's cautious approach regarding his recovery. “He will bat in Manchester. He batted with quite a lot of pain in the third Test, and it's only going to get easier and easier on his finger,” Doeschate said. Pant had visibly struggled during the previous match, yet continued to contribute with the bat despite discomfort.

While Pant’s batting is almost assured, his availability as a wicketkeeper remains uncertain. “Wicketkeeping is obviously the last part of the process to make sure that he can keep. We don’t want to go through that again, where we have to replace the keeper halfway through an innings,” ten Doeschate noted, referring to the challenges of an in-match substitution.
To give Pant the best chance at recovery, the team management opted to rest him during the most recent session. “He rested today. We're trying to rest the fingers as long as possible, and hopefully he's good to go in Manchester in the first training session,” added the coach.
Pant’s presence adds significant depth and flair to the Indian lineup, and with England leading the five-match series 2-1, his fitness could prove pivotal in India’s fight to level the series.
