Video: Virat Kohli Mocks Australian Crowd, Replicates Sandpapergate Incident On Day 3 Of Sydney Test vs Australia

Team India's star batter Virat Kohli engaged in a banter with the Australian crowd on day three of the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). The right-handed batter mocked Australia about their sandpaper scandal that took place seven years ago by emptying his pockets and rubbing on to his palms.

The incident occurred in the first session of day three when Australia were batting. With the hosts getting off to a good start in a tricky yet modest run-chase of 162, the crowd was hyping up the home side. Hence, Kohli also got into the act and decided to seemingly throw Australia off their game.

The saga was arguably one of the darkest chapters in Australian cricket history. The incident took place during the third Test of the four-match series in South Africa in 2018 as Cameron Bancroft tried to tamper with the ball with the sandpaper. Later, then captain Steve Smith admitted that the plan had been mastered by them. David Warner was found to be the main culprit and copped a one-year ban alongside Smith. Bancroft was also slapped with a nine-month ban.

Meanwhile, Kohli didn't have the most impressive time with the bat Down Under as he managed only 190 runs in five Tests at 23.75 with a solitary hundred. The home side brutally exposed his weakness outside off-stump as he fell all eight times by nicking to the keeper or the slip cordon.

Australia had faced a tricky run-chase of 162 and lost three wickets after a blazing start. However, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Beau Webster kept their cool to see their side over the line.
