Lucknow Super Giants' hopes for an IPL 2025 playoff spot took a major blow on Sunday after a 37-run defeat to Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. But what caught social media’s attention wasn’t just the loss it was captain Rishabh Pant’s continued slump and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka’s visible frustration in the stands.
Pant, who entered the season with sky-high expectations after being bought for a record-breaking ₹27 crore at the auction last November, once again failed to deliver. Batting at No. 4, the LSG skipper managed just 18 runs off 17 balls before getting out in bizarre fashion.
In a desperate attempt to shift gears during the eighth over, Pant charged down the track to Azmatullah Omarzai, only to completely lose his grip on the bat. While the bat flew towards square leg, the ball ended up comfortably in the hands of Shashank Singh at sweeper cover. The comical dismissal summed up both Pant’s night and his season.
