The much-anticipated IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad faced an unexpected hurdle as rain interrupted the proceedings on June 1. The match, scheduled to commence at 7:30 PM IST, saw PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer winning the toss and opting to bowl first.
As the match was about to commence, rain began to fall, delaying the start of the match. The ground staff promptly covered the pitch and surrounding areas while players and fans awaited further updates.
According to IPL regulations, a minimum of five overs per side must be completed to constitute a match. The IPL has allocated a two-hour buffer to accommodate rain delays, aiming to avoid an abandoned match. So, 9:30 pm is the cut-off time for a 20-over game.
If the match cannot be completed within the stipulated time, and even a Super Over isn't feasible, the team that finished higher in the league standings will advance to the final. In this case, PBKS, having finished higher than MI in the league stage, would progress to the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
It's important to note that there is no reserve day scheduled for Qualifier 2. Only the final, set to be played on June 3, has a reserve day allocated. Fans and teams alike are hoping for the weather to clear up, allowing the match to proceed and determine the second finalist of IPL 2025.
