The date June 25, 1983, will forever be remembered as the day when India shocked the cricketing world. The Kapil Dev-led Team India beat the mighty West Indies at Lord's to win the first title. The win also began a new era for India in world cricket.

Cricket has been the most famous sport in India for decades, and no sport has been able to match its popularity. While players have been pocketing an insane amount of money by winning ICC titles and playing the sport throughout the year. How much money did BCCI pay players for winning the 1983 World Cup?

Back in 2020, Kris Srikkanth, while speaking to Star Sports, revealed that the BCCI announced ₹25,000 bonus for all the players.

India had defeated the West Indies during the group stage, but the pressure of a World Cup final took its toll on Kapil’s team. Srikkanth top-scored for India in the final and slammed 38 off 57 balls. Sandeep Patil and vice-captain, Mohinder Amarnath, scored vital 27 and 26, respectively, as India put on a total of 183 on the board.

Amarnath also scalped 3 wickets and was given the Player of the Final award for his all-round performance. Madan Lal also scalped 3 wickets, including the key wicket of Viv Richards. Balwinder Singh Sandhu trapped Michael Holding in front of the stumps to propel India to probably their most famous ODI win by 43 runs with West Indies being bowled out for 140 runs.

Kapil-led India came close to retaining the World Cup in 1987, but they lost to England in the semi-final. The 1987 WC was jointly hosted by India and Pakistan.
