Indian chess champion D Gukesh hid his face in anguish after committing a blunder to lose the chance of winning the crown at Norway Chess 2025 event. A video of the same surfaced on social media as the teenage chess prodigy hid his face in regret after realising he had made the wrong move in the match against Fabiano Caruana.

Had Gukesh drawn the bout against Caruana, the title would've been decided in two games. It was also close to happening as Caruana had blundered in Move E47 by pushing forward pawn. But Gukesh made a bigger blunder in move E48. With only two second remaining, the 18-year-old extended his hand in resignation as his hopes of winning a maiden Norway Chess crown were crushed.

In the process, Gukesh also lost hopes of finishing second with 14.5 points, while Caruana accumulated 15.5.

"Gukesh showed in this tournament he's on track" - Magnus Carlsen

With Carlsen sealing his 7th Norway Chess title by accumulating 16 points, he said Gukesh seems to be on the right track but acknowledges himself to be way ahead of today's generation. Carlsen said, as quoted by Times Now:

"Gukesh showed in this tournament he's on track, he's doing fantastic, but he's not ahead of track. I felt I generally played the best chess, but stumbling over the finish line, winning by half a point after a lot of results go my way...I feel in parts of the game I'm a lot better than the kids... I generally feel I can outplay the kids, which feels good."
