The oldest football tournament in Asia and one of the oldest in the world, Durand Cup 2025, has reached its business end of the tournament. The match between NorthEast United FC and Bodoland FC is set to be one of the most exciting clashes as the latter have reached the quarter-finals for the first time in history.
NorthEast United FC had won the Durand Cup last year by defeating a strong Mohun Bagan Super Giants' outfit. Even before facing the Rangdajied United FC in their final group-stage match, the Highlanders had sealed their spot in the quarter-finals. However, NorthEast United FC's confidence could have slightly dented as Rangdajied United FC held them to a thrilling 2-2 draw. They should still be favourites for the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Bodoland FC capped off a dream group-stage campaign as they blanked ITBP FT 4-0 on August 12, Tuesday, thereby sealing a historic quarter-final place. In the process, Bodoland also topped the Group D. With NorthEast United overwhelming favourites to win the clash, Bodoland FC will need to bring their A-game but will likely have nothing to lose. But the crowd at Kokrajhar should be heavily behind Bodoland FC's players.
Mohun Bagan FC, NorthEast United FC, Jamshedpur FC, Diamond Harbour FC, Indian Navy FT, Bodoland FC, Shillong Lajong FC and East Bengal FC have made it to the quarter-finals.
