Rishabh Pant's injury

Pant was hit on the foot while trying to reverse sweep a Chris Woakes’ yorker on Day 1 of Team India's first innings. After being struck on the foot, Pant hobbled and called on the physio but had to be eventually taken off with his right foot swollen and bleeding. The scans revealed a fracture, and he was advised to take six weeks’ rest. Despite the injury, Pant batted and went on to score a half-century.

Gambhir honours Pant's innings

Gautam Gambhir hailed Rishabh Pant's brave effort as a defining moment for the current Indian team, saying his courage would lay the foundation for the team. He said, “One thing I want to say is that the character and foundation of this team will be built on what Rishabh did, not just for the team, but for the country as well. No amount of praise is enough for him, especially for batting with a broken foot; not many have done that. Future generations will talk about this, and they should. I hope he recovers quickly.”

The India head coach said what Pant did for the team, batting with a fractured foot, is not something many players have done. He added, "I can sit here and talk about this for hours and hours. I think the generations to come forward will talk about this. And generations coming forward should talk about it, that there is someone who has batted with a broken foot. And it's unfortunate because of the kind of form he was in,"
