BCCI suspends IPL 2025
In an unprecedented move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with immediate effect, following a sharp escalation in hostilities between India and Pakistan. The decision was taken, shortly after the 58th match of the season was abruptly halted at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
The game, featuring Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, was called off midway as security concerns surged due to the stadium’s proximity to the India-Pakistan border. Emergency protocols were activated, and both players and spectators were swiftly evacuated from the venue. Reports confirm that players from both teams are now en route to Delhi by road, under heightened security arrangements.
Scheduled matches have also been impacted across the country. Friday's clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, set to take place in Lucknow, has been suspended indefinitely.
This disruption comes on the heels of a significant military escalation on Thursday, when Pakistan reportedly launched coordinated missile and drone attacks targeting multiple Indian states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. Indian defence forces intercepted all incoming threats, successfully preventing major casualties or damage.
The BCCI has not yet provided a timeline for when or if the tournament might resume, stating that the safety of players, staff, and fans remains the top priority.
