Chennai Super Kings, Dewald Brevis gave fans a rare moment to cheer with a jaw-dropping, acrobatic catch that lit up the MA Chidambaram Stadium even as CSK were officially knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoff race.

The 22-year-old South African pulled off what may go down as one of the finest boundary catches in IPL history. Positioned at long-on, Brevis timed his leap to perfection as he caught the ball while still inside the field of play.

Realizing his momentum would take him over the rope, he had the presence of mind to toss the ball mid-air, fly past the boundary, and while still airborne tap the ball back into play before landing outside. He then dashed back into the field to complete the sensational catch, leaving teammates and spectators stunned.

Brevis has played just two matches this season after coming in as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh and has managed to impress the captain. He scored 32 runs against Punjab Kings after coming in to bat at 48/3 and stitched a 78-run vital partnership with Sam Curran. Overall, in two matches, Brevis has so far scored 74 runs at a strike rate of 145.09 and is a much-needed addition to the CSK line-up that lacked intent earlier this season

CSK's dismissal ended by PBKS

Chennai Super Kings' turbulent IPL 2025 campaign officially came to a halt as they suffered their eighth loss in ten matches, becoming the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention. Despite posting a competitive total of 190 after being sent in to bat, CSK fell short once again this time to Punjab Kings, who sealed a tense four-wicket win in the final over at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

For much of the chase, Punjab Kings appeared to be in control, but Chennai's bowlers briefly rekindled hopes of a turnaround by dragging the game into the final over.

The turning point in the match came during a decisive 72-run stand between Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh, which provided PBKS the stability they needed through the middle overs. With 52 runs required off the last five overs, the game was finely poised.

Iyer took on Matheesha Pathirana in the 17th over and hammered two sixes and a four, extracting 20 vital runs to swing momentum firmly in Punjab's favor.

With the loss, CSK missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year — a first in the franchise's illustrious history. Chennai will now head to Bengaluru to face Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 3, hoping to salvage pride in their remaining fixtures.
