IOA Formally Approves India's Bid To Host 2030 Commonwealth Games In Ahmedabad; Check Details

The Indian Olympic Association has formally approved India's bid for 2030 Commonwealth Games during the bod's Special General Meeting on Wednesday. The Deadline to submit final bid documents is August 31. India has already submitted an Expression of Interest for the 2030 CWG with Ahmedabad selected as the host city.

Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad?

A team of officials from Commonwealth Sport, led by its Director of Games Darren Hall, is in Ahmedabad for a three-day visit to inspect the venues and meet Gujarat government officials. A large delegation of the Commonwealth Sport is expected to visit India later this month.

With Canada having pulled out of the race, India’s chances of getting the 2030 CWG have brightened. A large delegation of the Commonwealth Sport is expected to visit India later this month. The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will decide the host country in the last week of November in Glasgow.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games will be the centenary edition of the multi-sport event 20 years after they hosted it for the first time. Hosting the event will give India the chance to show their capabilities to host the 2036 Olympics. India has already submitted the Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee for hosting the 2036 Olympics.

India had previously hosted Commonwealth Games which took place in Delhi back in 2010. The country finished the vent with 101 medals, with 38 gold, 27 silver, and 36 bronze medals. This performance had placed them second in the overall medal tally
