Before injury Shami had made a shaky start in the match bowling six wides in his 11-ball first over. He now registered the unwanted record of bowling the joint-longest over by an Indian in One-Day Internationals. Before Shami, Zaheer Khan and Irfan Pathan are the other two Indian to have bowled 11 balls in an over in One-Day Internationals.
Babar Azam dismissed as India get breakthrough
Team India set an unwanted record on Sunday after losing the toss against Pakistan. The Men in Blue have now lost 12 tosses in a row, starting from the finals of World Cup 2023, the longest sequence for a team in ODIs.
After being asked to bowl first, Indian bowlers failed to get early breakthrough with Pakistan openers Imam-Ul-Haq and Babar Azam both scoring runs at ease. At the time of writing, Pakistan were 41/1 with Babar Azam getting dismissed for 23 runs by Hardik Pandya.
Imam Ul Haq was only drafted into the team after Fakhar Zaman was ruled out of the tournament due to injury after the opening match against New Zealand. Pakistan need to win the match to remain in contention for a place in semi-final, while India can get one step closer to semi-final if they win the contest in dubai.
