Day 2 of the final Test between India and England at The Oval delivered high-paced action, gritty batting, and another twist in this tightly contested series. With both sides trading blows through top-order runs and pace-dominated bowling spells, the match is finely poised heading into Day 3.
England, having won the toss and elected to field first, saw their bowlers execute the plan perfectly on Day 1 and into the early sessions of Day 2. India were bowled out for 224 runs in 69.4 overs, with left-handed Sai Sudharsan top-scoring early on with a composed 38 runs that included 6 boundaries. Middle-order batter Karun Nair showed resilience with a well-crafted 57 off 109 deliveries, laced with 8 fours, helping India reach a modest total.
England’s pace duo of Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue did the bulk of the damage. Atkinson finished with a brilliant 5-wicket haul, while Tongue backed him up efficiently with 3 wickets, maintaining relentless pressure throughout India's innings.

Zak Crawley gave the hosts a fiery start, smashing 64 runs off just 66 balls, which included 14 boundaries, while Harry Brook continued his good form with an aggressive 53, featuring 5 fours and 1 six.
However, the Indian pacers fought back fiercely. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna shared the bowling honours with 4 wickets apiece, ensuring the English lead didn’t extend too far. Their sharp spells helped India stay in the contest.
Batting again late in the day, India reached 75/2 in 18 overs at stumps. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played positively, staying unbeaten on 51 runs off just 43 balls, hammering 7 boundaries and 2 sixes. He was joined by nightwatchman Akash Deep, as India erased the deficit and took a lead of 52 runs with 8 wickets in hand. Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue once again made early inroads, taking one wicket each in India’s second innings.
'What Do You Want Us To Do?': KL Rahul Gets Into Heated Chat With Umpire Kumar Dharmasena During IND Vs ENG 5th Test; Video
Day 2 of the 5th Test between India and England at The Oval saw a tense moment not just between players, but also between India’s KL Rahul and umpire Kumar Dharmasena, following a verbal exchange between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root.
The drama began when Prasidh Krishna appeared to chirp at Root after delivering a ball during a charged-up over. Root, unfazed, responded with a boundary on the next delivery and had a few words for Krishna in return. As the situation escalated slightly, KL Rahul, India’s stand-in senior figure on the field, was seen intervening to calm things down.
However, it didn’t end there. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena appeared to warn the Indian team about on-field behavior, prompting a visible response from Rahul. According to stump mic recordings, KL Rahul questioned the umpire, saying: “What do you want us to do? Be quiet?”
Dharmasena responded firmly, “You would like any bowler come and walk to you? No, you can’t do that. No Rahul, we should not go on that way.” The exchange didn’t stop there. Rahul pressed again, “What do you want us to do? Just bat and ball and go home?” To which Dharmasena replied, “We will discuss at the end of the match. You can’t talk like that.”
Both Rahul and Dharmasena have reputations for being composed on the field, but this rare flash of tension added an unexpected layer of drama to the day’s play.
