Day 2 of the 5th Test between India and England at The Oval was packed with drama, as India’s young batter Sai Sudharsan was dismissed LBW by England pacer Gus Atkinson and what followed after the decision only added to the intensity of the day’s play.
The incident unfolded during India’s second innings. Atkinson, bowling from around the wicket, delivered a back-of-a-length ball that nipped in sharply off the surface. Sudharsan, who tried to hop and defend off the back foot, was beaten by the low bounce as the ball slid under his bat and crashed into his back pad.

The English fielders went up in unison, and the umpire raised his finger immediately. Sudharsan, after a brief consultation with non-striker Yashasvi Jaiswal, decided to challenge the decision via DRS. However, UltraEdge confirmed there was no bat involved, and Ball Tracking showed all three reds: impact in line, wickets hitting, and the ball clipping leg stump. The decision stood, and Sudharsan was out for a low score.
What followed took many by surprise. As Sudharsan walked off the pitch, he appeared to pass by the England huddle. Something was seemingly said by one of the English players, which triggered an immediate reaction. Sudharsan turned back and had a brief but visibly heated verbal exchange with Ben Duckett.

'What Do You Want Us To Do?': KL Rahul Gets Into Heated Chat With Umpire Kumar Dharmasena During IND Vs ENG 5th Test; Video
Day 2 of the 5th Test between India and England at The Oval saw a tense moment not just between players, but also between India’s KL Rahul and umpire Kumar Dharmasena, following a verbal exchange between Prasidh Krishna and Joe Root.
The drama began when Prasidh Krishna appeared to chirp at Root after delivering a ball during a charged-up over. Root, unfazed, responded with a boundary on the next delivery and had a few words for Krishna in return. As the situation escalated slightly, KL Rahul, India’s stand-in senior figure on the field, was seen intervening to calm things down.
However, it didn’t end there. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena appeared to warn the Indian team about on-field behavior, prompting a visible response from Rahul. According to stump mic recordings, KL Rahul questioned the umpire, saying: “What do you want us to do? Be quiet?”
Dharmasena responded firmly, “You would like any bowler come and walk to you? No, you can’t do that. No Rahul, we should not go on that way.” The exchange didn’t stop there. Rahul pressed again, “What do you want us to do? Just bat and ball and go home?” To which Dharmasena replied, “We will discuss at the end of the match. You can’t talk like that.”
Both Rahul and Dharmasena have reputations for being composed on the field, but this rare flash of tension added an unexpected layer of drama to the day’s play.
