IND vs ENG, 2nd Test, Day 2: Shubman Gill & Ravindra Jadeja Resume As Team India Look To Maximise Their Advantage At Edgbaston

Team India will look to maximise their strength of position on day two of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Captain Shubman Gill, who belted a century on day one and is still unbeaten on 114, will need to go big but will equally require the support of the tailenders.

Gill and Jadeja handled the tricky situation of the contest with utmost maturity on day one at Edgbaston. Jadeja joined hands with Gill after the tourists had succumbed to 211/5 as Chris Woakes got the better of Nitish Kumar Reddy for 1 when the seam-bowling all-rounder tried to leave the ball.

With Team India's tail being vulnerable after their poor show in the opening Test in Leeds, the hosts smelt blood. But Gill and Jadeja have shared an unbroken 99-run stand to power their side to 310/5 in the 85 overs bowled on day one.

England, meanwhile, bowled well in patches and held the upper hand after taking five wickets when India had 211 runs on the board. However, they will rue letting the match drift away as India crossed 300 on a surface that could bring the spinners into play as the Test progresses.

"My eyes are on India tomorrow" - Nasser Hussain

Following day one, ex-England skipper Nasser Hussain stated that India must correct the mistake of not letting their tail wag enough in the Leeds Test as it proved to be a massive factor. Hussain stated, as quoted by Sky Sports:

"I think it's more key that eyes are on India. There was no reason at all in Leeds that they should have lost 7-41 and 6-31. Whatever you say about England's bowling and [Josh] Tongue going through the tail, there was no reason for that to happen on a road of a surface. My eyes are on India tomorrow. Can they make up for the mistakes they made at Headingley?"
