After Shubman Gill's 269 propelled Team India to a mammoth 587, the bowlers came to the party, putting their side firmly on top after day two of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The hosts still trail by a mammoth 510 runs going into day three and will need to mount a splendid batting performance to get close to India's score.

The 99-run stand between Gill and Ravindra Jadeja stretched to a massive 203 as England dismissed the latter for 89. However, it was the only wicket for the hosts in the opening session as India walked to lunch with 414/6 on the board after resuming at 310/5.

With Washington Sundar joining Gill, England dismissed the former for 42 but the visiting captain not only crossed 200 but also 250. England managed to deny Gill a triple-hundred but his 144-run stand with Sundar, followed by some lower-order hitting ensured that India had posted an imposing total. The Indian skipper also managed to break a handful of records, including highest score by an Indian captain in Tests in England and the top score by any Indian batter on English soil.

Akash Deep makes back-to-back strikes to dent England:

Although Akash Deep struggled a touch in his first over, conceding 12 runs, he roared back with back-to-back wickets in his second. He got Ben Duckett to nick off to Gill at first slip, followed by Ollie Pope, who edged KL Rahul to the cordon. KL Rahul juggled it once and took it the second time.

Mohammed Siraj joined the party in the eighth over of the innings when he edged one to Karun Nair, who was also stationed at slip as the home side crashed to 25/3. Harry Brook survived an umpire's call but joined hands with Joe Root took England to stumps at 77/3.
