"Virat Kohli has the chance to beat Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most hundreds in World Cups in this tournament. Because he doesn’t give his wicket up after getting a good start.": Virender Sehwag
"India are favourites to win against Pakistan. I don’t know what’s going to happen on that day but the team which handles the pressure better will win and India I think are better at handling pressure. Pakistan are also under a lot of pressure because they haven’t won against India in an ODI World Cup.": Virender Sehwag
"It is unfortunate for a country like us to play the qualifiers. But Sri Lanka still has very good talent. Unfortunately we haven’t played to our potential in the last 4-5 years. We had success in the last Asia Cup but that is T20 cricket which is very different from 50-over cricket. We have a good side, they are doing well in Zimbabwe and I think they will be the champions there. If and when we qualify, we will be a threat for all other teams but winning the tournament, I’m not sure.": Muttiah Muralitharan
"Wickets will favour the sub-continental teams because of the spinners. India and Sri Lanka have good spin attacks. When the tournament is happening in the sub-continent, the Asian teams have more advantage": Muttiah Muralitharan
"Everybody is looking forward to that India-Pakistan game. I am ready to battle with Shoaib Akhtar on social media during that match.": Virender Sehwag
"Sachin Tendulkar was so heavy so we couldn’t lift him so we left it to the youngsters to lift him on their shoulders after India’s 2011 WC win.": Virender Sehwag
"We played the 2011 WC for Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli is similar to Tendulkar, he’s the one now. Everybody is looking to win this World Cup for Virat Kohli. Whenever he plays, he gives more than youngsters. I am sure Virat Kohli will score good runs and win the World Cup for India": Virender Sehwag
"I started watching cricket from the 1992 World Cup. Watching Sachin Tendulkar play. For me the best World Cup moments came in 2003 and 2011. You can score a lot of runs in bilateral series but if you score 300-400 runs in a World Cup then that’s much bigger. World Cup is like the Olympics of Cricket. When we won the WC, the entire nation was on the road. From Wankhede to Trident, it took us almost 1.5 hours. We felt like an Indian groom with baratis dancing in front of us," said Virender Sehwag on his fond memories of the show piece event.
"It takes a long time for people to win a World Cup. You need a lot of luck as well. You could be the best team but you can be outplayed any day. The 1996 World Cup win was everything. We were a small country and not very respected but that win changed everything for us and as a country," said Muttiah Muralitharan at the schedule launch event in Mumbai.
India will play Australia in its season opener at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on October 7.
Blockbuster India vs Pakistan will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in front of 110.000 spectators on 15th October.
The 12 venues for the World Cup are expected to be New Delhi and Dharamsala in the North Zone, Lucknow in the Central Zone, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Pune in the West, Kolkata and Guwahati in the East, and Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram in the South. Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will only host warm-up games, while the other 10 centers will stage the 48 official World Cup matches, including the three knockout games.
Netherlands stunned the West Indies in a high-scoring thriller in the 17th Match of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifier. The Dutch first pummeled the West Indies' bowling attack to score 374 to tie the contest and they hammered 30 runs off the super over to win a thrilling conquest. The two time champions thus failed to qualify for the the showpiece event in a major upset.
As we wait for the schedule of the ICC World Cup 2023 to be revealed, here is something to read.
The delay is in stark contrast to the 2019 event, when the dates and venues for the tournament in England and Wales were announced more than a year out in keeping with usual practice for major sporting events. The match schedule for the tournament is still under wraps as geopolitics cloud the buildup to the showpiece event.
The venues where the Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to play in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India have raised concerns among the team. In response to this request, R Ashwin, shared his thoughts on his YouTube channel, stating that the ICC is unlikely to take the request into consideration.
Pakistan might play the majority of their matches in Chennai and Bengaluru for security purposes. Another possible venue under consideration is Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Likewise, Bangladesh may play most of their matches in Kolkata and Guwahati to minimise travel distance for their fans from the neighbouring country.
Assuming all goes according to plan, the 50-over World Cup is set to commence on October 5. Bengaluru, Trivandrum, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Bengaluru, and Dharamshala have been identified as potential venues for both the main matches and practice fixtures. However, only seven of these venues will be hosting India's league matches. Ahmedabad might be the sole venue where India plays two matches, but this is contingent upon the team reaching the final.
Eden Gardens in Kolkata has emerged as a strong favourite to host a semifinal during the Men's ODI World Cup 2023 later this year. The decision to allot a semifinal to Eden Gardens took shape at a meeting of the state associations of host cities with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and International Cricket Council (ICC) officials on Monday (June 26). There were 12 associations who attended the meeting.
A day before the event though, the ICC announced it’s begin the trophy tour by launching the silverware into the space. The trophy reached 120,000 feet above the Earth before landing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad
After a long delay, ICC & BCCI will unveil World Cup 2023 Schedule today at a function in Mumbai starting 11:30 AM.
