Team India's batting star Virat Kohli's Test retirement has caused a massive stir in the cricketing fraternity, with tributes pouring in from current and former cricketers worldwide. However, fans have been equally stunned, considering it's a premature announcement from Kohli, given his fitness levels and hunger. As per a RevSportz's report, have claimed that the BCCI's 10-pointer SOP played a part in his retirement.

Following India's crushing 3-1 series defeat in Australia, the BCCI introduced a 10-pointer SOP to change India's culture in a bid to improve their performances. One of those put a limitation on the duration the players' families can spend with them. The new guidelines said players not being in India for over 45 days can have their partners and children (aged under 18) for a couple of weeks.

According to reports, Kohli's place for the England tour was never under question but even head coach Gautam Gambhir stood by BCCI's guidelines and refused to alter it. It is believed to not have sat well with Kohli and he stepped down.

"The England tour signals a new era for India without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Ravichandran Ashwin" - Michael Vaughan

In his latest column for The Telegraph, ex-England skipper Micheal Vaughan said coach Gautam Gambhir faces a massive challenge for the upcoming Test series on English soil, given the responsibility he has to build a new team. He strongly feels India will miss Kohli and so will the game.

"The England tour signals a new era for India without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma or Ravichandran Ashwin. I would think the head coach Gautam Gambhir will be excited to forge a new team under a new captain. It will be a seriously tough tour, but they will have the talent in the team to win, as long as they have that hunger that Kohli always brought. Either way, India will feel a very different team without Kohli in their ranks this summer. They will miss him, and so will the game more widely."
