With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing the 15-member squad for the 2023 World Cup, certain section of fans have been massively divided over the selection decisions. The reactions over the social media have mostly been regarding the selection of Suryakumar Yadav over Sanju Samson as the latter has been inconsistent in ODI cricket.

Samson, who has played only 13 ODIs, averages a healthy 55.71 with three fifties, alongside a strike rate of 104. By contrast, Suryakumar averages merely 24.33 in 26 ODIs with only 2 fifties. The right-hander's spot especially came in jeopardy after the ODI series against Australia earlier this year when he registered three consecutive ducks.
Missing from the 15-man squad is also Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna, both of whom made it to the Asia Cup squad. While Prasidh Krishna delivered promising performances in the T20I series against Ireland, the selectors have opted for Shardul Thakur as the fourth seamer, given the batting depth he provides as well.
