Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has announced a financial compensation of ₹25 lakh to families of stampede victims, months after 11 of their fans died in the tragic incident. The franchise made the announcement regarding the same on August 30, Saturday, through the initiative of RCB Cares.
With the Bengaluru-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise winning the coveted trophy for the first time, RCB organized a parade in the city the very next day. With lakhs rushing to see the players live outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, it resulted in a massive stampede, with 11 reportedly dead and 56 others injured. The franchise came under huge scrutiny.
Meanwhile, RCB launched the RCB Cares and released the below statement:
"Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025. We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us. Part of what makes our city, our community & our team unique. Their absence will echo in the memories of each one of us. No amount of support can ever fill the space they’ve left behind. But as a first step, and with the deepest respect, RCB has extended ₹25 lakh each to their families."
"Not just as financial aid, but as a promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care. This is also the beginning of 𝗥𝗖𝗕 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦: a long-term commitment for meaningful action that begins by honouring their memory. Every step forward will reflect what the fans feel, expect, and deserve."
First responders or emergency services reached the scene after the incident and began transporting people to the nearby hospitals soon. The Karnataka government had also announced a financial compensation of ₹25 lakh to the families of the victims.
Temporary ban on Chinnaswamy Stadium to host large-scale events
Meanwhile, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has been deemed 'unsafe' to host large-scale gatherings, as part of the findings of the report submitted by the Commission to the Karnataka Government. ESPN Cricinfo reported that the venue's design and structure are 'unsuitable and unsafe' for mass gatherings.
As a result, the venue was also ticked off as one of the hosts of the upcoming Women's ODI World Cup. It has been replaced by the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
