Pakistan captain Babar Azam finally arrived in Lahore after enduring a disappointing 2023 World Cup campaign. The 29-year-old was hounded by fans, trying to take selfies, after being spotted at the airport, with one of the security personnel trying to get him safely to his car. The video has gone viral on social media.

Babar's captaincy has come under fire after Pakistan failed to reach the 50-over World Cup semi-final. The Men in Green started their campaign with two wins, but their campaign went downhill ever since, losing four matches in a row. They faced an improbable equation ahead of their final league match against England, needing to win by 287 runs. However, they lost the toss and England put up a mammoth 337 and Pakistan collapsed to a 93-run loss.

After the match against England, Babar lamented conceding a few too many runs and that bowlers cannot afford to be wayward, given the true nature of the pitch. The 29-year-old, who finished with 282 runs, remained optimistic of Pakistan coming back strongly.

"We conceded a few too many runs. We bowled a few loose deliveries towards the end. And out spinners' aren't taking wickets, which doesn't help. That has a big effect because you need to take wickets in the middle overs. The pitch is very true and the margin of error is very low for fast bowlers, which explains the big scores we have conceded. We will sit together and take stock. We'll take positives from this and discuss mistakes. I'm keen to lead the rebuild."

It's worth noting that Pakistan do not play an ODI until November 2024.
